3D Cell Culture

In contrast to 2D cell culture, 3D cell culture provides a more natural environment for cells to grow. When cultured on a flat surface of a Petri dish, cells are unnaturally stretched. Their cytoskeleton is altered and so is the expression of surface receptors that are frequently drug targets.

Growing cells in 3D, the way they grow in living tissues, restores cell shape, receptors, and functions and enables to model higher order cell processes such as cell migration and invasion that are inherently 3D.
